Group led by Buddhist monks threaten Christians

February 10, 2019

At around 10:30 a.m., while the Sunday worship service was ongoing, 03 Buddhist monks and 20 youth from the village and nearby villages forcibly entered the place of worship. They demanded to know if the pastor had received permission from the area Divisional Secretary  (DS) to conduct his religious worship activities. Prior to this incident, the pastor had been told by the Alahara DS last year to discontinue his worship services. The pastor had requested this in writing but had been denied. The group then started shouting in obscene language and threatening the congregants. The pastor called the police emergency hotline and 03 policemen from the Bakamuna Police Station arrived immediately and dispersed the crowd.
