At approximately 09:30 a.m., while the Sunday worship service was ongoing, a mob of around 20 persons (including Buddhists and Hindus) forcibly entered the place of worship and began threatening the Christians who had gathered there (the mob was made up of villagers as well as outsiders). They demanded that the Christians stop their worship activities and stop gathering for prayer meetings in the future. A member of the mob then struck a female congregant (the owner of the premises) on her cheek. The pastor’s wife called the police emergency hotline and 02 policemen from the Padukka Police Station arrived at the premises at approximately 09:40 a.m. They defused the situation and asked both parties to be present at the Padukka Police Station.
